Create and issue your first tax invoice
From choosing the customer to issuing, the QR code, printing and sharing — step by step.
Updated October 23, 2026
Before you start
- Complete your company details.
- Add the customer from Sales → Customers → New customer. For a business, enter its VAT number and national address; for a person, the name is enough.
- (Optional) Add what you sell under Products & services so you can pick it quickly.
Steps
- Open Sales → Invoices and press New invoice.
- Choose the customer. The invoice kind is set for you: standard (a VAT-registered business) or simplified (consumers). See the difference.
- Add the lines: item or description, quantity, unit price and VAT (standard 15%, zero-rated, or exempt with the exemption reason).
- Check the totals: taxable amount, VAT and the total including VAT.
- Choose a button:
- Save draft: you can still edit it; nothing is posted to the books.
- Save & issue: the invoice is numbered, stamped, gets its QR code and is posted to the ledger.
- Save & submit for approval: when your company uses approvals, an approver approves it and then it is issued.
After issuing
- Print: in Arabic or English, with the QR code ZATCA requires.
- Share link: a public page with your company's name where the customer views and prints the invoice, and pays if you set up online payments.
- Send: by email to the customer.
- Record payment: when the money arrives.
Important: an issued invoice cannot be edited. To correct it, create a credit or debit note.
When your company is connected to ZATCA the invoice is sent automatically: standard invoices for clearance, simplified ones for reporting. Follow its status in the "ZATCA compliance" section of the invoice.
